Your Union Representatives

Richard Morgan. The new Chairperson of the CWL Branch. Being a Union officer is sometimes a bit like being blindfolded in a darkened room trying to catch a black cat that isn't there. We all have pilots licences for flying by the seats of our pants and things are not getting any easier. Employment rights? Don't think so!
But despite all the obstacles we seem to be getting results for a lot of members. Perhaps the one big thing in our favour is that being represented by a Union still carries a lot of weight and the more people that join us the stronger we become and the louder our voice
.

Heather

Hello, my name is Heather Park. I am the Secretary for CWL Branch. I have seen first hand how many different scenarios can lead to members requiring our services. There is nothing worse than feeling you are "out on a limb", all alone and with no one to turn to. Your union is just what it says, colleagues that stand united, side by side. We are here to offer support and advice when you need it.

PS. I do a lot of work with the CWUHA to find out more follow the link!

Hello members especially those within Royal Mail & Romec. I am Kenny McKendrick and I have been your Asst. Branch Sec. Postal for nearly 15 years. Recently I have been elected as Divisional Representative for the North West and North Wales. In my experience I have seen many management initiatives challenged by our union which have either influenced the outcome or stopped it altogether e.g. P.O. privatisation (for the time being). What is often overlooked is how crucial it is that members keep us (your representatives) aware of changes occurring or suggested in the workplace by your managers. One of the most actively employed   management tactics to circumvent the union  is to suggest the CWU has been "involved" or it is not up for discussion. So remember colleagues keep us informed

Jason Morley is the Health & Safety Coordinator for the CWL Branch.. I have been a Union Safety Representative for 10 years as well as completing engineering duties for BT. The CWU helped me to obtain my qualifications as a H & S practitioner Tech SP. This training allows the Branch to offer safety advice on all areas of work, from engineering practices through to safe use of computers. The union has had to adapt to cater for the needs of it's members, H & S is a very important part of this. Our Web site reflects the priorities of our Branch and I hope you will find it useful.

Assistant Secretary Health & Safety:

John Southwell.

"I am 42 years old, and I have always believed that everyone should be able to work in a safe and secure environment and that everyone is entitled to be treated equally and with respect. That's probably why I have been a union member for 26 years, joining the EEPTU in 1979.

For the past 12 years I was assistant Secretary of the old Mid. Lancs. Branch for the CWU, as it was then & I have been an accredited Union Safety Representative for the last 9 years. Also up to now I have attended four CWU conferences to enable me to familiarise myself with union business.

I have held quite a few roles within the Union & the company, which has given me a wide range of experiences to draw on as a Health & Safety champion. Since the branch merger in early 05,a whole load of chalenges have opened up with nearly 2000 members now the new Central & West Lancs I feel we can only go from strengh to strengh

On a personal level I have been married for 16 years & have two daughters. In my free time I like to scuba dive, my family & I go for walks (usually in the Lake District) or go on bicycle rides through the local woods or along the canal. I also like to spend time with the rest of my family.

Treasurer:

Andy Shorrock. The treasurer has looked after the financial position of the branch for many years initially the Internal branch and now the currently branch. My main aim is to ensure that there are sufficient funds available to service the branch needs. The branch has a Political account with funds available for political purposes - including standing in local / national elections. We also have a Welfare account which can be used for the benefit of members off sick.

Retired Members Officer:

Doreen Watson

My name is Jacqui. I joined BT in 1979. I have been a member of a union committee since the age of 17 until becoming a Branch Officer some 4 years ago. My current part time post is as the clerical section secretary whilst also holding the post as regional clerical treasurer. In addition to my union role I work as an on-line broadband technical helpdesk advisor.

My office is based in Blackburn , close to the membership. Here I am able to deal “hands on” with clerical issues. Over the years, I have built up a good reputation and relationship with the membership and employer, whilst gaining vast knowledge and expertise of BT's procedures and policies.
