CENTRAL & WEST LANCS BRANCH CWU MEMBERS TAKE THE WORK-FIT INITIAITVE TO THEIR HEARTS
The first week of the BT/CWU health initiative has shown just how much interest there is in Health issues, the figures show that nearly 10,000 people signed up for the scheme in the first week. As usual the NW Branches were involved immediately running their first publicity event on the second registration day.
Safety Coordinators from the BTU H & S Committee attended Preston TEC and Preston Telephone House. The members were able to have their height, weight, and waist measurements taken so that they were able to enter accurate measurements on the Work-fit system via the laptops provided. In addition to this members could volunteer to have their blood pressure measured using a machine provided by BT. This service was taken up by approximately 100 people with some higher than normal results recorded. Attendees were given advisory leaflets from the British Heart Foundation and it is expected that most will receive the full Work-fit packs from the company. Two other initiatives being provided by the CWL Branch is the provision of information regarding local walks and healthy recipes. BT are sending pedometers to the first 2500 people to register, so the CWL Branch have put together information on several local walks under the Banner
"TAKE YOUR PEDOMETER FOR A WELL EARNED WALK"
Further walks will be added throughout the Work-fit scheme so members can take advantage of new walks each week. Please feel free to share any of your favourite walks with other members by emailing us in the office on cwl1@btinternet.com
Healthy recipes will also be added to the site so our members can try and share healthy option meals. To start this I have added a few ideas I have tried plus my wifes favourite healthy soup, they are simple to make and very tasty. There is also a couple of useful pages explaining exactly what we should do to ensure we are eating wisely.
